Setting your traps correctly

The staff at A&J are here to help you in any way possible, and we get asked quite a few questions regarding bait and rigs. Below are a selection of proven big carp and catfish rigs. Take a look and you will see that they are very simple, well proven and easy to tie.

All of the materials used are available from leading fishing tackle stockists. Please remember that ALL hooks must be barbless and leadcore leaders are not permitted. Please see the Korda and Armalead leaders available. If you prefer to purchase leaders from us, we sell the very well made leaders from Armalead in our shop on site.

Anchor Anti-Eject Rig.
This is a basic line aligner with an added bristle which the carp find very difficult to eject. This rig is best used with stiffer hooklink materials like mono or Snakeskin. Used with bottom baits only.

Hooklink material:
Korda Hybrid / Snakeskin 25lb.
Hooklink length: 8 - 10 inches with 50lb stiff bristle made from Amnesia etc.
Hook used: Croix Blanche Vampire, size 6 which are only available from our shop.

Single Blow Back Rig.
This is a very effective single bait rig, using a rig ring on the shank of the hook to allow the bait to travel along the shank. Use single bottom baits, ideally used when the carp are simply mouthing the baits.

Hooklink material: Fox Powerbraid 25lb
Hooklink length: 8 - 10 inches
Hook used: Longshank Nailer, size 6.

Blowback Snowman.
This is a rig that we recommend for 90% of the fishing at Etangs de la Croix Blanche, although it works well on our other venues too. A single bottom bait with a popup on top to gently waft about on the bottom. Deadly!

Hooklink material: Fox Powerbraid 25lb
Hooklink length: 8 - 10 inches
Hook used: Longshank Nailer, size 6.

The "Claw" Rig.
A combi link rig used with double bottom baits. It also uses heatshrink to emphasise the turning of the hookpoint and to aid hooking the carp straight away. Very neat rig.

Hooklink material: Korda Hybrid 25lb with the last 4-5 inches stripped back.
Hooklink length: 8 - 10 inches
Hook used: Croix Blanche Vampire, size 6 which are only available from our shop.

The "Testicle" rig.
This rig was developed in Spain when anglers using multiple baits were missing takes quite frequently. We reduced the length of the hair and added another, using two 22mm halibut pellets on each hair and large float stops to hold them in place, fished tight up to the bend of the hook. There was a 50% increase in fish hooked because of this alteration.
